Petrobras' Foz do Amazonas find still doesn't confirm a commercial discovery
Petrobras announced on Friday night (14th) the presence of hydrocarbons at the Morpho well, in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, part of Brazil's Equatorial Margin. According to the company, the finding was confirmed through electrical logs and rock indicators, with drilling operations still ongoing. The statement does not clarify whether the material found is oil or gas, nor does it indicate commercial viability or reservoir volume.
In a report by Valor, written by Kariny Leal, on the announcement, Marcus D'Elia, a partner at Leggio Consultoria, said it is still too early to treat the finding as a commercial oil discovery.
"There's no information yet on volume, let alone commercial viability," D'Elia said. According to the consultant, "the announcement only means there are signs of oil or gas in the recovered rock sample and in the instrument readings. It's a very preliminary picture."
